Ballyhoo! is back baby and if you've been wondering if they still got "it" then I'm here to stand a top the mountains screaming "hell yeah they do"! Back on the road again with their third major record "Day Dreams" blowing up a venue near you very soon! "Day Dreams" displays all four band mates talents and growth since the days of "Do it for the Money". Climactic bridges, memorable verses, and chourses that make your ears explode with raw power Ballyhoo! has managed to produce an album that doesn't sell out or cater to the radio. It just plain rocks! They still get their sound out the old fashioned way. By that meaning facebook, twitter, iTunes, torrent sites, touring non stop, and hanging with their fans after the shows. I was fortunate enough to catch the "Hoo Crew" recently for the 6th time and it was probably the best show to date. The equipment was set up perfect. The crowd was there for a great time and they got what they paid for! Awesome stage presence, shots of bourbon, and signing autographs till the wee hours of the next morning, Ballyhoo! and "Day Dreams" will be your next summer in December album!
Enough with the ego boosting. It's time for a review!

mc chris, MC Lars, Mega Ran and Adam WarRock
7th St. Entry, Mineapolis, MN Sept. 13th
So I got off my lazy ass and made it out to the Entry last night and oh what a show it was! I grabbed a taper buddy and his gear and off we went. The bar is a small place, and I got to admit I didn't think there would be that many nerds in Minneapolis. My buddy that I had brought along guessed there would be 35 people in the bar, I told him c'mon, there will be 100. We get to the bar and there is a huge crowd in front of 1st Avenue (the main bar that the Entry is attached to) and I'm joking with my friend about the huge crowd of goths all being there for the nerdcore show and we make it around the corner and there was NERDS EVERYWHERE! The doors had already been open for about 20 minutes and the line was about 80 people long. Me, being more hippy than nerd, hadn't picked up tickets in advance cause how many people know who mc pee pants is eh?! After standing there nervously for a couple of minutes one of the door people came by asking who had tickets, it was a tense moment when i told her no i didn't have any, but the nerd gods smiled and she told me we were OK. 20 minutes and $16 later and we were in the door.
I had never heard of Adam WarRock till I saw this single come out a couple weeks ago. Adam rocked it out solo with his laptop and did some killer tunes. He had great energy and the crowd was totally into his set. As Adam got started my buddy set up his taping gear, then tried to get a soundboard feed from the evil woman who runs sound at 7th St. Entry and she got all nasty with him and told him he couldn't tape at all. :( While I got into the rest of Adams set my buddy went off and talked to MC Lars and got the OK to tape and Evil Sound Lady quashed that by telling Lars' manager (who doubles as his bass player...whodathunk) that my buddy STILL couldn't tape. Boooo Evil Sound Lady at the Entry! Anyways Adam was fun. One of the songs he did was 'Nerdcorps'. Here is the 2 minutes we got to tape of Adam's show :( sounds great too.

I have played these guys fairly regularly since I was turned on to them by rev user cosmicsoul. Budos Band has a sweet 70s funk sound and kicks out some awesome instrumental jams. Their sound reminds me of the background music for a 70s spy flick or something, nice tight beats, great horns and an all around tight sound. They are going to be playing First Avenue (The Entry) here in Minneapolis whih is a tiny little venue and tickets are only $15 here. If you get the chance get out to see these guys for SURE!

So Inf0Bud turned me and TheRev on to this band the other night and it's some great stuff. Here is a little bio on the guy by Inf0Bud and check out this link for his stuff. It is some really interesting music. I guess I would classify it as Trip-Hop, some great beats, super interesting mixes. Check it out yo!
Blockhead
Real Name: James Anthony Simon
Blockhead grew up in downtown New York City. He is the son of the late Sidney Simon, a well-known sculptor in New York City. From early on he found his passion was for music. A fan of a whole range of sounds, especially hip-hop, Blockhead steadily built a tremendous collection of tapes and later CDs from innumerable artists. Aside from his solo efforts released on the Ninja Tune label, he is most associated with producing for Aesop Rock, a rapper for the Definitive Jux independent hip hop label. He has also previously worked with rappers C-Rayz Walz, iCON the Mic King, Mac Lethal, S.A. Smash, Slug, and Murs. After a brief stint as a rapper, he realized his calling was behind the boards and not on the mic, and from there he began to produce beats. Oh, and the guy does comedy, too. As a member of the hip hop/comedy group Party Fun Action Committee whose hip-hop/comedy debut album was recently released on the legendary Def Jux. Since making that decision, he's been kept pretty busy. Blockhead produced 9 tracks on Aesop Rock's critically acclaimed album 'Labor Days'. Additionally, he produced half the tracks on Aesop's follow up EP, 'Daylight'. Blockhead has also been working with other indie giants such as Slug of Atmosphere, Murs, Mike Ladd and SA Smash. He also found time to complete a break beat album entitled 'Blockhead's Broke Beats', with 10 hard hitting instrumental tracks, which was released on Mush Records, the US home of cLOUDDEAD. And just to prove that he ain't all about art-rap, Blockhead produced 2 tracks on the newly crowned Skribble Jam Battle Champ, MacLethal's full-length album. He is the creator of some exquisite, emotional instrumental hip hop, which will make any true music lover’s ears extremely happy.

Ahhhhhh it's getting closer and closer to that time of year where the windows are rolled down. The air is flowing through your hair. You have your arm out the window doing that thing where the air lifts it and drops it. You know. Summer time! It's so close! You can almost taste it! Well the only thing missing is that one album that you can crank up and sing along to while hauling ass down the highway. Well I'm here to tell you that album is here and has been for a little while!
Ballyhoo first stepped on stage back in 2004 as a Sublime cover band. Since then they have been on tour non stop! Based out of Aberdeen Maryland this foursome has grown a fanbase around the globe. Making it all the way to Japan! Not bad for a "local" band!
Best way to describe Ballyhoo's sound would be,
"If Sublime, Incubus, and Greenday created a robot to destroy the world they would call that robot Ballyhoo!"
